With the resurgence of silver fish fishing on natural venues and commercial fisheries over winter we have decided that it is time to produce four new groundbaits specifically for silvers. We have developed these groundbaits in conjunction with some of the best silver fish anglers in the UK including Des Shipp, Lee Kerry, Steve Saunders, Mick Vials, Michael Buchwalder & Will Freeman. We took a fresh look at the market and decided to produce four new groundbaits, all of which could be mixed straight from the bag or mixed with the others in the range to tailor a groundbait for a specific day on a specific venue. Being able to mix them with each other was of great importance to all of our anglers as natural venues change and therefore the groundbait needs to change to suit the conditions and the methods on the day. Supercrumb Black River is a dark, heavy mix with strong binding properties. This means it is perfect for using on the feeder or balling in on rivers. Being heavy will ensure that it goes straight to the bottom before breaking up. It is a slow acting dormant mix that is ideal for carrying other baits such as chopped worm and casters to the bottom or it can be added to other groundbaits to make them heavier and bind better for fishing in faster flow or deeper water. MIXING GUIDELINES Supercrumb Black River is simple to mix. Empty the 1kg bag of groundbait into a round mixing bucket, fill a 1pint maggot tub with water, pour this onto the groundbait and mix thoroughly, then allow it to rest for 30 minutes, during this time the water will be absorbed into the groundbait. Then for best results; to remove any lumps and create an even consistency, pass the groundbait through a riddle and it is ready to use. When fishing sun and wind may dry the groundbait out a little, to combat this you can cover the mixed groundbait with a damp towel or if it does dry out just add a little more water and mix again. One of my main requirements for this mix was the color, it had to be golden yellow which is traditionally associated with bream, the main reason for this is that it stands out better on the bed of a lake or river especially when you put plenty of groundbait to create a feeding area. In addition to the color it had to have a few heavy particles in, as these really hold the bream in the swim as they sift through the groundbait in search of food items. It also had to contain a large amount of fishmeal as this has become part of their regular diet. It needed to be quite a fluffy mix so it could come out of the feeder but also had to bind well so it could take particles to the bottom in a feeder or when being balled in on the pole line. It is great at carrying particles like maggot, caster or corn and creates a good feeding area. Also included is a new ingredient called "Yellow Mist" which gives a yellow cloud to the water but the groundbait also has heavier particles in it to keep the bream feeding on the bottom. We also developed a liquid to match the same sweet smell that bream go for, which can be added to the gr oundbait to further enhance the flavor.
