Like other Ultra/Plus models in the Acolyte range, the Plus 9ft Feeder is a stepped-up version of the Ultra 9ft model but remains super slim and lightweight. The design was refined through stages of prototypes and months of field testing. At 2.74m the Plus 9ft Feeder has an average weight of just 4½ oz (120g) and is perfect when fishing from platforms and tight swims on commercial fisheries when the shorter length will also help bring the fish closer in for swifter netting. The Plus 9ft Feeder has a parabolic playing action which is ideal for silverfish, F1s and small to medium sized carp. This superbly powerful rod is capable of ultra long range casting with big feeders up to 3 ½ oz (100g). With the right technique, distances approaching 100m can be achieved with remarkable accuracy. Many other distance feeder models end up unbalanced and over-gunned, and in some cases look more like beach casters than feeder rods! As a result, they lose tactile contact and feel when playing fish and result in more hook-pulls. Working with Five times World Champion Alan Scotthorne and top international match anglers Steve Hemingray, Darren Davies and Dean Barlow, we have extensively field tested and modified various Acolyte Distance Feeder prototypes in the UK and Ireland over a period of more than two years. The 14ft Acolyte Ultra boasts an exceptionally slim, high modulus carbon blank. This model is just 5.25oz and actually better balanced than most 13ft models! Paired with a compact float fish reel, the rods tend to sit up in the hand at an angle above horizontal, making them a joy to fish with all day. They have been designed mainly for reel lines from 2lb 8oz to 4lb+, which is roughly 0.12mm to 0.18mm diameter monofilament. The blank feels very rigid and has a light, crisp action with little or no bounce for really excellent line and float control. At the same time, the tip action is soft enough to act as a gentle shock absorber, cushioning the strike and preventing hook pulls. This allows ultra-light hooklengths below 1lb (0.08mm) to be fished with confidence.
